VIDEO: US House of Representatives Approves Additional $40 Million Aid for Armenia

The US House of Representatives has approved an initiative by Congresswoman Jackie Speier to provide an additional $40 million in aid to Armenia, reports Voice of America.

Nearly two-thirds of the Congress voted in favor of the additional assistance to Armenia, with 268 representatives supporting the measure. According to Congresswoman Jackie Speier, who has Armenian roots, the provision of additional aid from the US to Armenia is an important symbolic step, as it demonstrates that the United States appreciates the significant strides made by Armenia in its journey towards democracy following the Velvet Revolution.

Earlier, Speier stated that the additional $40 million will be directed toward the development of democracy in Armenia and increasing government accountability. “This is a small support to a country that has built democracy on its own,” she said, adding that the Velvet Revolution has opened a unique opportunity for Armenia to unite and lead the country towards prosperity through democratic means.
