Council of Europe Secretary General Sends Letter to Pashinyan
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland, has sent a letter to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In the letter, Jagland addressed Pashinyan's proposed judicial reforms and promised support in this regard, as reported by Armenpress.
"The Council of Europe greatly appreciates your commitment to pursuing the agenda of judicial reforms. We also share your assessment that efforts to combat corruption must be multiplied and that the judicial system should be reformed and reconstructed in line with the Constitution of Armenia and Armenia's international obligations," Jagland wrote.
He expressed hope that a swift and decisive strategy and actions will turn the government's legitimate objectives into reality.
"That strategy can be built on three pillars: vigorous efforts against corruption, enhancing the independence and effectiveness of the judiciary, and rectifying human rights violations," Jagland wrote.
He explained that all of this could be achieved through the activation of European monitoring mechanisms, which would ensure trust in the reforms as well as the continuity of international support.
