What is Happening in the Supreme Judicial Council: Who Will Be the Next to Resign?
The passions in the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia are not calming down. According to information obtained by the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, serious discontent is growing around the activities of Supreme Judicial Council member Haik Hovhannisyan, and it is likely that he will also submit his resignation from the council in the near future.
Following Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's announcement on May 20, internal discussions and the tense atmosphere within the judicial system have not subsided. On May 24, the president of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Harutyunyan, submitted his resignation, and on June 7, the acting president of the council, Gevorg Danielyan, also resigned. However, the situation within the council remains unresolved.
According to information received by the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, judges and council members are in serious disagreements with Haik Hovhannisyan. Furthermore, they have previously informed Gagik Harutyunyan that although he has a past with Hovhannisyan, his appointment to the council would create significant problems between the judges and the council. Nonetheless, Harutyunyan did not heed the advice of council members and judges.
Moreover, there are reports that after Harutyunyan's departure, he no longer responds to Haik Hovhannisyan's phone calls. It is rumored that Hovhannisyan may submit his resignation in the coming days. Given the tense internal relations, he has privately expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that after resigning, he plans to leave Armenia and live in Sochi.
