Residents Arrive with KamAZ Trucks to Demolish Hydroelectric Plants

According to «Zhamanak», the new authorities of Armenia seem to have decided to abolish property rights.

Yesterday, residents of Aragats village ascended Mt. Aragats in three KamAZ trucks and a tractor to demolish the Geghard2, Geghard1, and Aragats hydroelectric plants that were built on the Geghard River back in 2007. The villagers claim that the plants pollute their water and the water used by the plants is no longer suitable for agricultural purposes. Not through judicial acts or compensation, but by vigilantism; the villagers have decided that the hydroelectric plants need to be demolished and set out to do so. Something was done yesterday, and the rest will be done today.

According to some reports, the demolition crew is backed by the mayor of Aparan, Karen Yeghiayan, who also owns the “Gntunik” supermarket. One wonders how he would react if another group decided to demolish his supermarket.
