Why the Investigator Seized Robert Kocharyan's Property: The Prosecutor Explains

No civil lawsuit has been filed against Robert Kocharyan to date, suggesting that the charge of overthrowing the constitutional order attributed to Kocharyan has no logical connection to damages caused by a crime. This was stated today, on June 6, at the court session regarding the seizure of Kocharyan's property at the Shengavit seat of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, by Kocharyan's lawyer, Hovhannes Khudoyan, as reported by News.am.

During today's court session, the lawyer referenced the decision made by Judge Robert Papoyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on May 8, 2019, where the court partially upheld the appeal of former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan's lawyers against the decision to seize his property.

The court noted that the seizure of Gevorgyan's property violated his rights, yet it did not compel the prosecutorial authority to rectify the violation.

According to Khudoyan, neither Armen Gevorgyan nor Robert Kocharyan has been accused of any act that implies property seizure.

Presiding Judge Anna Danibekyan inquired from prosecutor Vahe Dolmazian about the purpose of the investigator seizing Robert Kocharyan's employment contract, identification cards, bank cards, hunting rifles, and cash found in his residence.

The judge specifically questioned what significance the hunting rifles might have for the case.

The prosecutor replied that although the rifles were for hunting, they could serve other purposes. Regarding the seizure of the identification cards, the prosecutor stated that the investigator's actions were lawful and that he could seize them under criminal procedural law.

As for the bank cards found in the residence, according to the prosecutor, they were seized to prevent the cash available in them from being withdrawn.

The judge inquired how the pre-trial authority determined the ownership of the $27,300 found in Kocharyan's residence when seizing the amount.

It was noted by the lawyer that this money did not belong to Robert Kocharyan, but rather to his son, Levon Kocharyan.

Dolmazian stated that in their opinion, the money found at the house belonged to Robert Kocharyan.

It is noted that the decision regarding the seizure of Robert Kocharyan's property will be published on June 7 at 12:20 PM.
