Lori Cheese: Laboratory Test Results
Hetq has presented laboratory tests of Lori cheese from 9 producers to determine whether they contain vegetable oil and antibiotics.
The cheeses were tested in the presence of an inspector from the Food Safety Inspection Body.
Lori is a type of Armenian cheese belonging to the brined cheese category. Its ingredients include pasteurized milk, a mesophilic lactic acid bacterial starter, and a rennet obtained from microbial origin (chymosin), along with table salt. It does not contain vegetable oil.
The cheese falls under the technical regulation on the safety of milk and dairy products under the Customs Union's rule 033/2013.
On May 13, 9 samples of Lori cheese from various producers were submitted for laboratory analysis.
As the cheeses were sold in pieces and their integrity was already compromised, the examination focused solely on the presence of vegetable oils and antibiotics.
One of the samples, N9 from “Sevan Dairy,” contained vegetable oil, which is considered adulteration under the Food Safety Law, as the composition was altered without appropriate labeling changes.
No antibiotics were detected in any of the listed 9 samples during the laboratory testing.
Thus, samples N1-8 meet the established norms and are suitable for consumption.
