Entry to Yerevan Schools to Be Controlled by Access Cards: City Hall Clarifies

In Yerevan, parents are expressing concern as changes are set to occur in several schools.

The reason for citizens' worries is that children's access to certain schools will be regulated by access cards, with reports indicating that parents may be required to pay a monthly fee of 3,000 drams.

To verify the accuracy of this information, Aurora News contacted the press secretary of the Yerevan City Hall, Hakob Karapetyan.

“This system will be implemented in an additional 30 schools. The goal is to clearly track when a child enters and exits the school. The claim that parents will have to pay a monthly fee is not true. There may be a paid service that notifies parents about their child's school entry and exit,” the spokesperson stated.

Additionally, he mentioned that the information is partially accurate. According to the city hall spokesperson, the access cards are similar to the tokens used in the metro. “There will be magnetic cards that children will use to enter the school,” he explained.

Karapetyan noted that it is still unclear whether this will be an investment project or funded by the city's budget.
