A Group of Businessmen Protests Near the National Assembly

Today, on June 3, a group of businessmen and business representatives are holding a protest in front of the National Assembly. At the beginning of the protest, they intended to close Baghramyan Avenue, but after speaking with Assembly staff, they promised not to do so.

The protesters oppose the government’s proposed amendment to the Republic of Armenia law on state duties.

It is proposed to set the state duty for cement imports at 14,000 drams instead of 22,000, while no state duty is imposed on imported clinker.

It should be noted that the National Assembly continues its regular session. Draft laws discussed at the end of the week will be put to a vote. Subsequently, the Assembly will continue to discuss the remaining issues on the agenda. Among the agenda items is the annual report on the activities of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia (Inflation Report).

After the annual report, discussions will cover amendments to the law on insurance and insurance activities, amendments to the Labor Code of the Republic of Armenia, changes to the law on local self-government in Yerevan, and amendments to the water code of the Republic of Armenia, among other draft laws.
