19-Year-Old Sipan from Artsakh Was the Only Son in His Family
19-year-old Sipan Melkonyan, who was killed by enemy fire while stationed at one of the military units, was from the village of Kasakh in the Kotayk region and the only male child in his family. This was stated in an interview with NEWS.am by the Governor of Kotayk, Romanos Petrosyan.
“Sipan Melkonyan was shot by a sniper at the combat outpost; he is from the village of Kasakh in our region and the only son in the family. He has a sister who is, I believe, a student, and his father is the caretaker of the village school,” the governor told the news outlet, noting that Sipan had also left his studies unfinished to join the military.
Romanos Petrosyan also added that the soldier’s family is living in poor social conditions, and the governor’s office will provide assistance to the family from its social support fund.
Earlier, it was reported that on June 1 at around 07:30, a conscript soldier, Sipan Serjik Melkonyan, born in 2000, sustained a fatal gunshot wound from enemy fire while stationed at one of the military units in the southeastern (Martuni) direction.
