The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has officially renamed Simferopol Airport after the renowned marine painter Ivan Aivazovsky. The relevant decree was published on the official legal information internet portal.

In the document, it states: "I decide to name the following airports after individuals with exceptional merits towards the Homeland: ... Simferopol International Airport - after H.K. Aivazovsky." The decree comes into effect from the day of its signing, May 31, as reported by RIA Novosti.
