Mel Daluzyan Stabbed in Amsterdam

Two masked individuals, armed with a knife, attempted to rob the cash register of the Albert Heijn supermarket in central Amsterdam yesterday afternoon, threatening the employee. Weightlifter Mel Daluzyan, who came to the aid of the employee, was stabbed in the process. This information was shared on social media by a friend of Mel Daluzyan, the two-time European champion and bronze medalist at the World Championships.

"My good friend Mel was shopping at that time and, seeing what was happening, helped the employee and managed to tackle the robbers," the post reads.

The police arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspects. Unfortunately, before the police could arrive, one of the criminals managed to deliver deep knife wounds to Mel in the chest and back. Nevertheless, even while injured, Mel did not allow them to escape.

Mel is currently hospitalized, and his condition is stable. Fortunately, his life is not in danger. Dutch media have described his actions as heroic.

For the record, Mel Daluzyan is a two-time European weightlifting champion and record-holder, as well as a two-time bronze medalist at the World Championships, who has represented Armenia. The transgender athlete has received political asylum and has been living in the Netherlands for three years.
