Kocharian's Lawyers Did Everything to Prevent Charges from Being Made Public: Hranush Kharatyan

Ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan wrote on her Facebook page, "That Kocharian and his lawyers were well acquainted with the materials of the case comprising 70 volumes and their evidential nature explains why these people did everything to prevent the trial from taking place. During the trial, these materials would have gradually become public, and it would no longer have been possible to uphold the idea of 'innocent' Kocharian. The judge would have had no choice but to impose 'years of imprisonment'.

Now, evidential materials, in general, are not needed to come out, will not be made public, and society will not become acquainted with their evidential basis; the Constitutional Court will, in dubious ways, declare the case unconstitutional, and the society will receive a 'clean' individual, who will hang like the Sword of Damocles over the heads of those who provided testimonies. This 'clean person' will sequentially litigate against those who expressed doubts about his moral virtues and those who spoke out, restoring his 'good reputation' through fines, which will compensate for the expenses made on Mr. Alumyans. In 10 years, the first instance courts of the Republic of Armenia will be heavily burdened with lawsuits on restoring the 'good reputation and dignity' of this 'clean individual', as it will turn out that 99 percent of the population of the Republic of Armenia will have voiced some 'bitter words' about the clean individual or at least will have received information through unsigned letters, and the 'clean individual' will have realized that this is a good way to do business. True, Mr. Alumyans' revenues may decrease, but the work will also decrease – they will have to write the person's name on standard blanks and calculate the payable amount...

Meanwhile, today, Bako Sahakyan, in response to a question in the National Assembly about his opinion on the concerns within Armenia regarding the military units transferred from Artsakh to Armenia on March 1, 2008, stated that he is also very concerned and has tasked inquiries regarding the arrivals to Armenia.

He admitted that he participated in the operation that violated the constitutional order. However, two decades later, the deep-rooted author of the operation that violated the constitutional order will not remember why they continually go to court, but will count his daily income from the judicial business with paper in hand, making a fuss over every missing tenge. And he will write a will indicating which of his adult grandchildren will continue to receive that income.

Today we set foot in Armenian Stradia.
