Azerbaijan's Ambassador's Message to Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the UK

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to the UK, Tahir Taghizadeh, has assured that he personally guarantees the safety of Armenian national football team midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan during the UEFA Europa League final match between Arsenal and Chelsea, scheduled to take place in Baku on May 29. This was reported by Azerbaijani media.

"I would be pleased if Mkhitaryan would personally speak with me. If our goal was to play political games around him, that would be a different matter, but Henrikh is being paid as a football player, not as a political figure, so let's set aside all other questions.

I have a message for Mkhitaryan. It is this: you are a football player; if you want to play football, come to Baku, we will ensure your safety. But if you want to play 'games' around this topic, that is another story. I guarantee that everything will be done to ensure the safety of every fan, player, and all those present at the game," Taghizadeh stated.
