A Man Who Rescued Children from a Fire in Russia Sentenced to Probation

Gevorg Avetisyan, a resident of Yekaterinburg, has been sentenced to four years of probationary imprisonment.

It is important to note that Avetisyan saved three children from a fire earlier this year. According to Kommsomolskaya Pravda, the hero was involved in a criminal case.

Investigation details reveal that on September 8, 2018, Avetisyan and his friend, Chervony Oghli, brutally beat a man on Soviet Women Street.

“A brawl occurred, after which Avetisyan and Oghli maliciously decided to inflict serious bodily harm on the victim,” stated a spokesperson from the Sverdlovsk Prosecutor's Office. “Carrying out their criminal intent, Avetisyan took a brick and struck the victim in the shoulder area. The latter attempted to avoid injury by running home along Grizodubova Street, but Avetisyan and Oghli caught up with him.”

Oghli inflicted six kicks to the victim's abdomen and chest, while Avetisyan struck him approximately ten times in the back and waist. Later, the man was diagnosed with 11 broken ribs on the left side, along with lung damage and air accumulation in the left pleural cavity, which is life-threatening and considered dangerous to health.

The defendants partially admitted their guilt during the pre-trial and trial processes. The court sentenced Chervony Oghli to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony, while taking into account Avetisyan's active civic stance after committing the crime, he received a probationary sentence of 4 years.

The verdict has not yet come into legal force.
