Catholicos Karekin II Calls for Calm

His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, has expressed his concerns regarding the current events unfolding in the country via a post on his Facebook page.

"Dear faithful children of ours,
We are following with deep concern the situation that has developed in the Republic of Armenia over the past few hours.

The successes achieved in strengthening democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in our country can only be preserved and reinforced through the spirit of brotherhood and love.

We call upon all the children of our nation to demonstrate calm, to refrain from violence, and to collectively put in efforts filled with peace, the spirit of national unity, and mutual love in order to overcome the challenges before us.

We believe, dear children of ours, in your sound judgment and high awareness of responsibility for the future of our homeland.

It is our prayer that through understanding and solidarity in our blessed land, with the Lord's help, all existing disagreements and conflicts may be resolved.

Heavenly blessings and divine wisdom to us all," he wrote.
