Protest in Vanadzor: Yandex Taxi Drivers Demand Minimum Fare Increase
On May 15, a protest took place in Vanadzor. The drivers of the local Yandex taxi service organized a rally in response to what they claim are unfair conditions imposed by the company.
In a conversation with a Shamshyan.com correspondent, the drivers stated, "It's only in Vanadzor where the minimum fare is 200 drams. We want them to at least raise it by 100 drams, making it 300. We have expressed our grievances to the manager, but instead of coming to meet us, they just said that they don't care—don't drive, and we won’t drive either. As of today, some of us have removed their logos from our cars. We are tired of driving these cars that have become a burden, and they don't seem to care at all."
The drivers initially gathered in front of the company's Vanadzor office and then proceeded with a car rally to Hayk Square, where they parked their vehicles in a line and entered the street as a sign of protest. They also aimed to block Hayk Square from all sides.
Under the urging of traffic police and the head of the Taron police department present at the scene, the drivers eventually abandoned their plan to block the square.
