Mobile Markets to Be Established in Yerevan: Meshchyan

The Yerevan municipality is preparing to build lightweight mobile markets to provide opportunities for street vendors.

"Currently, specific commercial zones are being developed in Yerevan. Just yesterday, the head of the trade department visited, and we are about to prepare simple tables with basic covers that can be moved from place to place. Gradually, we will be able to accommodate fruit and vegetable sellers in entrances and hallways. What does street trading mean? If I know that a woman from a village has brought tomatoes and is selling them on the street, and with the money she earns, she will feed her child, that speaks to me. This is the issue: when you prohibit something, you should provide an alternative. Simply saying 'no' is not feasible. The complexity for today's municipality lies in the fact that we are looking for alternatives when we say 'no'," said Yerevan's chief architect Arthur Meshchyan.
