Strike at Alaverdi State College: 19 Employees Submit Resignation Requests
Students and faculty at Alaverdi State College have declared a strike and class boycott starting May 8. They protest against the temporary appointment of Astghik Avetyan, who was previously the college's deputy director for academic affairs.
In an interview with NEWS.am, college military instructor Aramayis Sahakyan stated that since the appointment of the temporary acting director on May 8, around 200 students have refused to attend classes. "Representatives from the Ministry of Education visited the college but left with their hands up, as the timeline for a competition for the director position is unknown and it is said it might take place in six months. Nineteen staff members are against the acting director Astghik Avetyan and have submitted their resignation requests. We will not work until this issue is resolved," he said.
