Museum Night: Free Admission for Everyone

Museum Night: Free Admission for Everyone

On May 18, International Museum Day will be celebrated, along with the Museum Night event, which is part of a pan-European initiative. This year, the event is being held for the 16th time in Armenia and the 7th time in Artsakh, involving over 100 museums. This was announced by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia.

International Museum Day was established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977, aiming to unite museums around global challenges facing society and humanity, while also raising public awareness of the crucial roles and opportunities museums have in addressing and solving these challenges.

This year, International Museum Day is held under the theme “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition,” which highlights the evolving new role of museums in society. Continuing their primary missions of collection, preservation, education, research, exhibition, and communication, museums today are transforming into active cultural hubs, becoming more community-centered and flexible in responding to the interests of large segments of society, global geopolitical challenges, and social issues.

International Museum Day is one of the most anticipated celebrations in our society, as evidenced by the increasing number of participating museums and the thousands of visitors each year. This year, museums in Armenia and Artsakh will present diverse programs to visitors, revealing new chapters of their collections and rich cultural heritage.

On May 18, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM, the doors of over 100 museums in Armenia and Artsakh will be open for free to the public.

On this day, the Yerevan Metro will operate until 01:00 AM.

The list of events taking place on that day is available on the Ministry of Culture's website.
