Police Provided Misinformation, Says TV 5 Owner's Lawyer
The police have provided misinformation regarding the whereabouts of my client, Armen Tavadyan. This was stated by Narek Aloyan, the lawyer for TV 5 owner Armen Tavadyan, in an interview with NEWS.am.
“I received information that Armen Tavadyan was in the Nor Nork Police Department, but I had no details regarding his criminal procedural status. I contacted both the Nor Nork Police Department and the hotlines of the Ombudsman’s office to clarify whether he was indeed in the Nor Nork department and to inquire about his procedural status. Both bodies informed me that Armen Tavadyan was not in the Nor Nork Police Department. Considering that there was clear information that he had entered the Nor Nork department, I submitted a report on the crime to the police hotline about 30 minutes later, stating that Armen Tavadyan had actually entered the Nor Nork police station, and that there was currently no information about his whereabouts. At 20:40, with the intervention of the Ombudsman’s office, I managed to gain access to the police station, where I learned that Armen Tavadyan was indeed in the Nor Nork Police Department, thus misinformation was provided,” he noted.
Narek Aloyan promised that they would ensure that the police would not act this way in the future: “We will make sure that the police do not disrupt the lawyers’ provision of legal aid to their clients in such a flawed manner moving forward.”
It should be recalled that after a protest outside the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, those detained by the Nor Nork Police Department, including TV 5 owner Armen Tavadyan, were released. In an interview with NEWS.am, Armen Tavadyan recounted that he was summoned to the police station based on some complaint and was offered to provide a testimony, but he refused.
