Massive Water Debts Arise from Thin Air in Parpi, Residents Alarmed

Residents of the village of Parpi in the Aragatsotn community are taken aback to learn that they have accrued substantial debts for irrigation water. The amount in question exceeds 100,000, and this debt is not limited to one or two individuals but pertains to the majority of the village.

According to residents who contacted ArmDay.am, they have not cultivated their gardens for years. When they sought to clarify the source of such a significant debt, especially when they were not provided irrigation water without prior payment, they received the response: “The figures are written down, but you won’t be paying anyway.”

ArmDay.am has learned that inspections are being conducted in the village mayor's office, which may explain the sudden emergence of these debts for irrigation water.

Residents suspect that the mayor is merely trying to cover up the deficiencies and shortcomings discovered as a result of these inspections.

ArmDay.am reached out for a comment from the mayor of Parpi regarding the accumulated debts and their origin.

“The Water Committee has informed us that the accumulated debt is due to natural water losses. There are various objective and subjective reasons for this. The channels do not supply water properly, and the infrastructure is in poor condition. There has been excessive water loss. This amount has not accumulated over one year, but rather over ten years,” said Mayor Ishkhan Arakelyan.
