Body of German Tourist Found in Khor Virap

SHAMSHYAN.com reports that the investigation department of the Ararat Police is preparing materials regarding the death of a citizen who was transferred in a deceased condition to the Vedi Medical Center a few days ago.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, on May 4, police officers from the Ararat division arrived at the hospital following a report and found out that the deceased was 70-year-old Günther Karl-Heinz Schmidt, a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany. Ararat police have determined that he was transported to the hospital in a death state from the Khor Virap monastery complex.

The police have notified the German Embassy in Armenia about the incident. According to G. Shamshyan's information, the deceased was visiting Armenia as a tourist. Preliminary information suggests that no signs of violence were found on the body, and it is possible that he died of natural causes.
