Armenia Leads the Region in Traffic Accident Fatalities
Today marked the launch of the fifth global week of road safety by the United Nations under the theme "Speak Up and Save Lives." The event highlighted that Armenia, unfortunately, ranks first in the region for the number of fatalities and injuries in traffic accidents.
Traffic accidents are identified as the leading cause of premature mortality among children and youth aged 5-29 both globally and in Armenia. The Head of the Traffic Police, Egor Karapetyan, stated that despite numerous appeals, between 450 to 600 drivers are fined daily in the republic for not using seatbelts.
Statistics indicate that the application of seatbelts and child safety seats can reduce the number of fatal accidents and injuries by up to 80%.
