Malyan-Zohrabyan: 'Let's See If You Have That Kind of Courage: Don't Doubt My Courage'
Public figure Narek Malyan drew the attention of the Chairperson of the Armenian National Assembly's Human Rights Protection Committee, Naira Zohrabyan, to an attempt to disrupt the presentation of the book 'My Body Is Personal'. Malyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“It would be very interesting to hear the opinion of the Chair of the Human Rights Protection Committee, Naira Zohrabyan, regarding the presentation of a book on sexual knowledge for children aged 3-6 by the founders of the ‘My Body Is Personal’ project at the Khnko Aper Library. Mrs. Zohrabyan, let’s see if you have that much ‘courage’ to respond appropriately to this issue: whether only the rights of men with skirts are protected in our country.”
Following this post, Gagik Tsarukyan's faction member Naira Zohrabyan responded:
“It seems that Narek Malyan has decided to question my 'courage' and principles, and here’s what he wrote on his page, to which I will now respond:
I believe that over the years, I have not given anyone a reason to doubt particularly my principles and ‘courage’. Yes, Mr. Malyan, since yesterday, I have received numerous alerts from parents and also from the NGO ‘Will’ that the presentation of the book you mentioned is taking place at the ‘Bookinist’ bookstore. I have not seen the book yet, and it will be with me tomorrow. You understand that without being familiar with the content of the book, it would be unreasonable for me to make any statement at this time. Moreover, I am ready to discuss it with our committee members and invite both the book’s authors and their opponents, as well as parents, if, of course, that discussion does not turn into a clash.
You surely understand that our committee has very different opinions on your mentioned issue and, in general, on many various issues. As for me, at least you know well that there is no position or mandate in the world for which I would become a blank slate.
Listen, don’t doubt my courage: I am also posting your remark on my page.”
It is noteworthy that yesterday a group of activists disrupted the presentation of the book 'My Body Is Personal', which they claim promotes corruption among children.
The book is intended for children aged 3-6 and their parents.
According to the organizers, the NGO ‘Crisis Center for Sexual Violence’, the book aims to raise awareness in order to prevent sexual violence against children.
The NGO published a statement on its Facebook page, informing that around 25 individuals stormed the venue during the event, disrupting it.
“Among them were Lia Avetisyan, Haik Ayvazyan, Haik Nahapetyan, and others. A number of men, including Vahagn Chakhalyan, threw eggs at the participants near the entrance of the ‘Bookinist’ café,” the statement read.
