Manvel Grigoryan Refuses to Follow Diabetic Diet, Prosecutor Claims

The former president of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, General Manvel Grigoryan, is refusing to follow a diet intended for individuals with diabetes. This was announced today, May 2, in the Central Judicial Complex of Yerevan by Prosecutor Vahe Dolmazyan, who is handling the case involving Grigoryan and Nazik Amiryan.

On April 8, 2019, in response to the investigator's inquiry, the head of the penitentiary institution reported that Grigoryan had been offered multiple times to adhere to the diet prescribed for diabetes patients.

“The administration of the correctional facility has no authority to restrict or deny him food options according to the prescribed diet, nor to accept food items that are contraindicated for him. For inmate Manvel Grigoryan, food items that are contraindicated for his condition have been delivered and accepted as incoming items,” the response sent to the investigator stated.

Vahe Dolmazyan noted that the defense team has consistently raised concerns about diabetes, while the submitted documents have led the prosecutors to doubt the possibility of altering the blood sugar levels through diet.

“A person suffering from diabetes is refusing to adhere to the proper diet,” the prosecutor highlighted.

It should be noted that Grigoryan's defenders have repeatedly pointed out that his blood sugar levels have risen beyond acceptable limits.
