Explosion at Lugansk Mine Results in Fatalities
An explosion of methane has been recorded at the 'Skhidk carbon' mine in the Luhansk People's Republic. The Republic’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that three miners have died and another 14 are missing. Rescue teams from the Rostov region’s city of Shakhti were dispatched to assist on Friday morning, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Approximately 100 personnel are involved in the rescue operation at the 'Skhidk carbon' mine near the village of Yurevka, announced Evgeny Katavalov, head of the Emergency Situations Ministry of the Luhansk Republic, to reporters.
'Currently, about 100 people are participating in the rescue operation,' the minister stated.
He explained that the work is being conducted in a planned manner, with the collapsed mines being ventilated and searches for the missing continuing. Katavalov added that two mining rescue teams from the Russian Federation are already on-site.
'There is always a chance, and hope is the last to die. We are hopeful,' the minister said.
