Passenger Transport Companies to Strike Tomorrow
Passenger transport companies are set to go on strike tomorrow. This was announced by Hrant Yeghiazaryan, the president of the transporters' union, during a press conference at the «Noyan Tapan» club.
"The companies operating in Yerevan's urban public transport have assured me that they will issue a statement. I want to emphasize that we are not engaged in politics and do not target anyone; we are speaking from our own interests. The companies will hold a precautionary strike to draw attention to their issues that have remained unresolved for the past 11 years," Yeghiazaryan stated.
When asked which routes would not operate tomorrow, the union president refrained from providing details but indicated that both buses and minibuses would be affected. According to Yeghiazaryan, everything has become more expensive while the fare remains the same at 100 drams, creating a "catastrophic" situation.
He also mentioned that they are against raising prices and stated that the government could support them with subsidies to continue their operations.
