Liska Staged His Assassination Attempt: Sensational Statement

The former governor of Syunik known as Liska, Surik Khachatryan, has been accused in a sensational statement made by one of the defendants in the alleged assassination attempt case from 2015. This information has been reported by the Armenian Time.

According to the news outlet, defendant Garen Atajanyan claimed in court today that what actually happened was not an assassination attempt but a staged event orchestrated by Surik Khachatryan. Interestingly, the police chief of Goris had conveyed similar information at the beginning of the investigation.

The media recalls that Ara Budaghyan was also arrested at the beginning of the investigation in connection with this case; however, the criminal proceedings against him were later discontinued.

The alleged incident occurred on May 20, 2015, when unknown individuals fired shots at Liska's vehicle on the Kapan-Goris highway. None of the three individuals in the vehicle—Liska, his driver, and assistant—were harmed, although most of the bullets struck the vehicle, including the windshield. At that time, there were already circulating reports in the media suggesting that the event was a staged act rather than an assassination attempt.

Following this incident, Ara Budaghyan, Henrik Avagyan, and Garen Atajanyan were arrested and later detained. The case has been in court since 2016, and the court has now moved on to the questioning of the defendants.

Defendant Garen Atajanyan's attorney, Vahan Hovhannisyan, has responded to several of our questions regarding this case.
