Water Release Works from Lake Sevan Have Started; Minister Was Present

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, visited the Arpa-Sevan hydrotechnical complex today, where he took part in the first water release works of this year towards Lake Sevan.

At the start of the visit, Suren Papikyan arrived at the Kechut reservoir, where the responsible officials presented a detailed technical-economic description of the reservoir and provided information regarding the current volume of water stored in it. Representatives from the sector assured the minister that the reservoir is in operational condition and that the water release towards Lake Sevan will be carried out smoothly and efficiently in the coming months.

Following this, Suren Papikyan visited the Yeghhegis section of the Arpa-Sevan hydrotechnical complex. Paruyr Hakobyan, General Director of the ‘Arpa-Sevan’ LLC, introduced the minister to the construction works carried out and planned to increase the productivity of the Arpa-Sevan tunnel, which is expected to double the volume of water transported to Lake Sevan. According to sector representatives, it is anticipated that this year the tunnel’s capacity will increase from the current maximum of 14.5 m³/s to approximately 18.5-19.5 m³/s, enabling the transportation of 150-180 million m³ of water to Lake Sevan this year.
