Today marks the third anniversary of the April four-day war. In the night of April 1 to 2, 2016, the Azerbaijani side launched a large-scale offensive operation against the Republic of Artsakh.

Widespread military operations took place along the entire length of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan contact line between the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh and the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. Intense battles were fought in the southern (Hadrut) and northeastern (Martakert) directions of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan contact line.

The Azerbaijani side utilized almost all available types of military equipment from its arsenal.

On the night of April 3 to 4, Azerbaijani forces continued to shell the positions of the Armenian armed forces and nearby Armenian settlements along the entire contact line using mortars and artillery. On the night of April 4 to 5, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces used the “Smerch” multiple rocket launcher system in the southern direction of the frontline.

Afterwards, a ceasefire was established, and military operations were halted.

As a result of the April 2016 battles, the Armenian side suffered over 100 fatalities and lost 800 hectares of territory.
