New Orchards Founded by Hovik Abrahamyan's Wife

Former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan's wife, Julieta Abrahamyan, has established new orchards in the village of Narek in the Ararat region, as reported by Hetq.am.

According to the media outlet, out of the 44.5 hectares of land owned by Julieta Abrahamyan, 22 hectares were previously classified as 4th grade agricultural land. By a decision of the Narek community leader, this low-value land classification was switched to high-value land due to the establishment of orchards. In Julieta Abrahamyan's land, 18 hectares of vineyards, 1 hectare of hazelnuts, and 3 hectares of sour cherries have been newly planted.

According to the law, the former prime minister's wife has been exempted from land tax payments for these orchards for a period of 4-7 years, depending on the type of fruit. As early as 2014, we reported that a total of 120 hectares of land was registered in the name of Julieta Abrahamyan in the village of Narek, including 100 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares of pasture.

The head of the Narek community, Garush Hakobyan, stated that the orchards were established last year and that the change in land classification was based on the commission's conclusion. According to Garush Hakobyan, besides the newly established orchard, the Abrahamyans also own other orchards in the village.

It is worth noting that it was decided to divert water from the Azat River to irrigate about 1,000 hectares of land in the villages of Narek and Kaghzrashen. It was suggested that the purpose of the Kaghzrashen gravity irrigation project was to ensure the water supply for the orchards owned by Hovik Abrahamyan's family. However, the launch of the project failed due to protests from the residents of Garni.
