Water Supply Disrupted in Parts of Yerevan Due to Major Incident on Arzni 2-Yerevan Water Pipeline

The central control service of Veolia Jur company reported a sharp drop in pressure on the "Arzni 2 - Yerevan" main water pipeline, 800 mm in diameter, between 7:30 and 8:00 AM on March 30.

The electronic flow meter installed at the entrance to the capital indicated a loss of 130 liters of water per second.

The company’s public relations department confirmed that a major accident had occurred. Two emergency response teams were mobilized and dispatched to the potential site of the incident, discovering the break near the gas storage facilities adjacent to the village of Getamej. Water was gushing out forcefully from a rupture in the pipe for various reasons. Immediate action was taken to address the situation.

According to David Sahakyan, the head of the Arabkir section of the Eastern Regional Directorate, following the necessary preparations, welders have commenced work to rectify the damage. A sufficient number of specialists, equipment, and materials are involved in the operations. Progress is being made smoothly.

Currently, the water supply to most areas fed by the mentioned pipeline is being provided according to a schedule, thanks to stored water in reservoirs. However, in some parts of Arabkir, water supply will be suspended from 1:30 PM to midnight. These areas include Ghapanzyan, Griboiedov, Artsruny, Argyutyan, Riga, Papazyan, A. Khachatryan, Komitas, Vagarshyan, Sundukyan, Adonts, Vratsakan, H. Kocharyan, Zaryan, as well as Getamej village.

David Sahakyan noted that if there are no unforeseen obstacles, the operation of the "Arzni 2 - Yerevan" water pipeline will resume within the specified timeframe. Unfortunately, additional time will be required afterwards to fill the large pipeline and the internal distribution network with several tens of thousands of cubic meters of water and ensure sufficient pressure to restore full water supply to consumers.
