Government Applies Pressure for 'Correct' Voting on Yerevan State University Rector's Dismissal

The newspaper "Hraparak" reports: "The previous session of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University did not discuss the issue of Aram Simonian's dismissal because it was not possible to approve the agenda. The head of 'Synopsis', Hovik Musayelyan, and the director of 'VivaCell-MTS', Ralph Yirikyan, did not vote in favor of the agenda. It is known that the government is currently applying pressure for the next session to vote 'correctly'.

However, there is an important nuance: the agenda is approved by a public vote, whereas the rector's issue will be voted on privately. There are 32 members in the council, comprising 8 from the ministry, 8 from the government, 8 professors, and 8 student representatives, and 'not everyone will succumb to the government's recommendations,' said one of the council members.

Regarding the matter, we called Musayelyan and inquired whether there is high-level pressure being exerted on him. He stated, 'It is interesting, many people know me well that no pressure can fundamentally be exerted on me.' And if the issue of the rector's resignation arises, how will you vote? 'Let’s not talk in 'if' terms.'
