Punished Soldiers Transferred to the Frontline: They Will Not Return to Their Former Unit

It has been reported that the issues at one of the military units in Meghri arose due to the fault of an officer, but that is not the case, stated Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, in an interview with Tert.am.

Recall that soldiers at one of the military units in Meghri voluntarily left the unit, thereby expressing their protest. Following this, a group of soldiers were transferred on March 17 to disciplinary units in Kapan and Stepanakert, from where they were subsequently sent to the frontline. According to parents, the incident occurred due to an officer's actions.

“I cannot comment on everything related to the incident. An investigation is underway. But the matter is as follows: several soldiers attempted to impose their own behavior and ethics within the unit. They influenced other soldiers. Those few soldiers tried to disrupt decisions regarding their collective and protested alongside other soldiers. As a result, both they and the active participants of the protest were punished,” Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.

According to him, all those soldiers have been sent to the frontline, not only in Artsakh but also in the Tavush region, including Berd, Noyemberyan, and many other places.

When asked whether it is possible for the punished soldiers to eventually return to their former unit, Artsrun Hovhannisyan responded, “No.”

He emphasized that such manifestations have no place in the Armed Forces, and any disorder will be strictly punished. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense also specifically noted that the officers will also face punishment.
