Proposal: Declare April 2 a Memorial Day for the Heroes Fallen in the April War
Dear Prime Minister, in April you are proclaiming Citizen's Day, which is a good initiative, but there is a very important day in April that you are not talking about or declaring. For example, April 2 could also be declared a Memorial Day for the heroes who perished in the April War. This was stated in an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan by Manuel Manukyan, the head of the NGO 'Dirqapah' which comprises participants of the four-day war.
In the open letter published on his Facebook page, it is also mentioned:
“Thanks to the immortal heroes who fell in the April War, we are able to have Citizen's Day. It is because of these immortal young heroes that we received the opportunity to make a revolution. The boys fought at the cost of their lives for the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, and I believe they deserve an official day to honor their memory; as a nation, we should pay tribute to our immortal heroes on that day. Most of the boys who fell during the April War are not buried in Yerablur, but at least a separate memorial plaque could be erected, where people can go and pay their respects to the heroes who are not buried in Yerablur. There is minimal attention given to such crucial issues, which is very offensive to us. Over the past 20 years, the Armenian nation was most united during the days of the April War, which was followed by the revolution. During the days of that same revolution, my team, many participants of the April War and I took to the streets for the security of our people and state. We had our modest yet powerful influence in the peaceful establishment of the revolution; we do not need you to remember, talk about, or appreciate that, we need you to at least keep the memory of our immortal heroes alive. I have made a principled decision that our struggle will not be limited to just the trenches at the front line; our fight will be everywhere and in every form. Now, with this open letter, I am addressing you and asking you to take all this into account; we want clear solutions to the issues presented.
Dear compatriots, I also want to inform you that regardless of how the state level responds to April 2, we, as a team, will march from the lower entrance of Yerablur at 11:00 AM that day and pay tribute to our immortal heroes. Everyone who wishes to can join us.
Respectfully, Manuel Manukyan
