Driver Who Hit Sisters Born in 2000 and 2002 Arrested
The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of a road traffic incident involving two individuals, one of whom is a minor. The driver has been arrested.
The Investigative Committee reports that preliminary data indicate that on February 18, 2019, around 19:10, a driver of a Renault vehicle hit two sisters born in 2000 and 2002 on Tbilisi Highway in Yerevan, causing serious injuries to them through negligence.
After the incident, the driver of the mentioned vehicle left the scene of the accident. On the same day, at 22:15, the driver reported to the Kanaker-Zeytun police station.
Following the incident, on March 18, 2019, a criminal case was initiated at the police under Article 242, part 1, and Article 244 of the RA Criminal Code, which was forwarded to the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee for further inquiry and accepted for processing on March 20, 2019.
On March 21, 2019, the driver of the Renault vehicle was arrested on suspicion of committing acts defined under Article 242, part 1, and Article 244 of the RA Criminal Code.
To clarify circumstances of significant importance for the criminal case, forensic medical and forensic automotive expert examinations have been scheduled, whose conclusions have not yet been received.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to clarify the causes and circumstances of the accident.
