Son Charged with Brutally Killing Mother over Lack of Alcohol in Bottle
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has charged a son with the murder of his 88-year-old mother based on sufficient evidence collected during the investigation conducted by the Tavush regional investigative department.
Within the framework of the criminal case initiated on the basis of signs of murder, a number of circumstances have been clarified surrounding the incident, including the motive and the identity of the alleged perpetrator, who is the victim's son, born in 1957.
Specifically, it has been established that on March 15, 2019, at around 11:30 AM, the resident of Tavush, born in 1957, argued with his mother over a household issue regarding the absence of alcohol in a bottle. During the altercation, he deliberately struck his 88-year-old mother with an axe around the head on the balcony of their home. As a result of the injuries sustained, she died that same day at the Ijevan Medical Center.
The 62-year-old man has been charged under part 1 of Article 104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The investigator has submitted a motion to the court for the selection of pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint, which has been granted.
To ascertain significant circumstances related to the criminal case, forensic, biological, material, and medical examinations, as well as inpatient psychiatric evaluations, have been ordered.
The preliminary investigation continues, and measures are being taken to ensure an objective, complete, and comprehensive examination of the circumstances of the case.
