What Controversial Decision is Mayor Haik Marutyan Preparing
According to the newspaper "168 Hours," while the process of demolishing cafés is approaching completion, a plan for the next difficult operation is being developed in the city hall under Mayor Marutyan's directive.
Sources from the Yerevan municipality told 168.am that specialists in the Legal Department are engaged in reviewing the documents pertaining to construction permits, preparing legal grounds to begin demolition work on attics. This decision is no less controversial, and despite the fact that the bases for their construction may be legally solid in the paperwork, it is said that in certain situations, the demolition decision will be unavoidable.
Mayor Haik Marutyan intends to issue the relevant decision no later than May and commence the rectifications of the attics (roof spaces) embedded in the buildings.
So far, the attics built on the rooftops of residential buildings in the main boulevards and central streets have mainly been registered. The bases of construction permits through which the volume of the building was increased will be particularly reviewed.
In other words, cases in which the embedded attics do not serve families as separate residences, but rather provide additional living space will be scrutinized.
After the quiet success of restoring the facades of buildings, the mayor's next action will be aimed at freeing up the areas occupied by garages.
