Public Debt Increased by $20.7 Million in Two Months, Reports 'Joghourd'

'Joghourd' newspaper reports: 'The public debt of the Republic of Armenia has once again started to rise. As of February 28 of this year, the public debt of the Republic of Armenia has reached $6 billion 943.6 million. At the beginning of the year, the public debt was $6 billion 922.9 million, meaning it has increased by $20.7 million over the last two months.

The majority of this amount is government debt, totaling $6 billion 393.6 million, of which $4 billion 977.2 million is external debt. It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government initially adopted a policy of reducing the public debt, opting out of attracting new borrowing.

However, the government now faces the necessity of taking on new debt, albeit in more modest amounts compared to previous administrations, and additionally, the funds are being spent according to need, rather than being wasted or embezzled.'
