Opera Café Workers Block Mashtots Avenue

The Yerevan Municipality has resumed demolition works on the cafes operating in the first ring area adjacent to the Opera House. The cafe employees have initiated a protest by blocking Mashtots Avenue. The situation is tense, with a large number of police present at the scene. They are attempting to remove the demonstrators from the street in order to restore traffic.

Yerevan Mayor Haik Marutyan has issued a statement, stating:

“Dear Yerevan residents, today we are realizing our long-standing dream of liberating the area around the Opera House and restoring the atmosphere of a cultural hub. This is the beginning of the process, and it will be ongoing. I thank all Yerevan residents for standing with us in this matter; we feel your support. Let’s return Yerevan its cultural identity.”
