Human Rights Defender Raises Issues Concerning Karen Ghazaryan's Rights in Geneva
In Geneva, Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan held a working meeting with Patrick Viali, the regional head of the International Committee of the Red Cross for Europe and Central Asia. Among other topics, they discussed a number of issues related to the protection of the rights of Karen Ghazaryan, who is imprisoned in Azerbaijan. Following the Geneva meeting, these issues were also discussed by the Defender with Clare Maître, the head of the ICRC delegation in Armenia.
According to the information provided on the Human Rights Defender's Facebook page, Arman Tatoyan presented the concerns of Karen Ghazaryan's parents and lawyer regarding his health condition, as well as the need for specialized care and treatment.
The request of the parents and lawyer to ensure communication with family members through voice or video means was raised, as Karen Ghazaryan is currently only able to communicate via written correspondence, which does not allow his parents to interact directly with their son.
During the meeting, the Defender also addressed the main issue concerning Karen Ghazaryan's return, noting that the ICRC, as an independent and impartial humanitarian organization, does not negotiate on behalf of either party regarding such matters but only provides the necessary support and carries out organizational work.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue their work on this and other issues.
