Always Remember That 'There is a Person from the Village': Ashotyan

Armen Ashotyan, the vice president of the Republican Party of Armenia, writes on his Facebook page:

“Always remember that 'there is a person from the village' before speaking.

The ruling political elite is now trying to mask the fiasco of Nikol Pashinyan’s latest visit to Brussels by attempting to 'sell dearly' the statements of European officials regarding the visa liberalization process with the EU to the Armenian people.

In reality, unfortunately, there is nothing new on this matter. The EU has always expressed its political will to start such a process, consistently urging Armenia to negotiate with member states, especially France and Germany, and has furthermore signaled that, considering the experiences of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova, it does not exhibit great enthusiasm.

Therefore, Pashinyan's visit did not bring anything new to this issue. Moreover, if last year the timeframe for starting negotiations (2020) was being discussed, now there is no mention of deadlines.

To refresh some people’s memory and confirm my statement, I suggest rereading the closing statement of the Eastern Partnership Summit adopted on November 24, 2017 (point 18).

Always remember that 'there is a person from the village'.”
