Armenian Prime Minister's Constructive Statements Go Unanswered by Azerbaijan: MFA Spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan

The spokesperson of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anna Naghdalyan, commented on the peace process regarding the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

“Recently, statements made by various Azerbaijani state bodies regarding the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue have noticeably hardened. They emphasize the use of force or the threat of force, the resolution of the issue by military means, and make aggressive, non-constructive statements, which are condemnable. This is also reflected in the recent statement of the co-chairs. The many constructive statements from the Armenian side, including those of the Prime Minister, have gone unanswered by Azerbaijan,” she noted.

“From Baku, we hear that ‘the factor of force has always been and remains on the agenda’, ‘the military factor occupies a special place at the center of the resolution of the issue,’ ‘force begets right,’ and so on. Moreover, against the backdrop of the declaration of a meeting between the leaders of the countries, Azerbaijan is conducting aggressive military exercises that have not been notified, in violation of international obligations,” Naghdalyan added.

“In the situation where the Prime Minister of Armenia announces in the European Parliament the necessity of introducing a culture of dialogue, tolerance, and compromise in our region, Baku threatens that it can prepare its society not for peace, but for resolutions of the issue by other means.”

“Such rhetoric, as well as statements made from aggressive, non-constructive positions, do not contribute to creating an appropriate atmosphere for negotiations. Armenia has repeatedly stated that it does not accept such approaches, as well as the imposition of negotiations under the threat of the gun,” she emphasized.

“Armenia has constantly voiced its commitment and supported the exclusively peaceful resolution of the issue under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group, where our priorities are the security and status of Artsakh. A vivid proof of our commitment is that after the Velvet Revolution in Armenia, the peace process did not stop, but received a new dynamic.”

“The creation of a peaceful atmosphere, the implementation of mechanisms for reducing risks and preventing incidents, and the establishment of confidence-building measures, as recorded in the results of the summits in Dushanbe, as well as previously in Vienna and St. Petersburg, remains relevant,” Naghdalyan concluded.
