Armenia is a Transit Country for Drugs, Says UN

According to a report by the UN International Narcotics Control Board for 2018, Armenia is a transit country for drug trafficking from neighboring Iran.

The report indicates that in recent years, Armenia has reported an increase in drug seizures, including cocaine and opium, which may suggest that the territory of Armenia is being used for transit purposes.

It is noted that in 2017, the volume of methamphetamine seizures in Iran increased by 30%, reaching 2.3 tons, compared to 1.7 tons in 2016. Armenia has also seen an increase in methamphetamine seizures, which, according to the report, has mainly been imported from Iran.

The report states that various reforms are currently being implemented in Armenia, with positive changes aimed at making the use of drugs and psychotropic substances for medical purposes more accessible, as well as establishing appropriate accountability for drug trafficking.

In 2017, CSTO member states conducted two large-scale joint operations to combat illegal drug trafficking and related money laundering.
