Who Planned the Murder of a 28-Year-Old in Djurjevan: Arrests Made

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed several circumstances surrounding the murder of a 28-year-old in Djurjevan, Kotayk Province, following investigative actions carried out by the Abovyan investigative department. Two individuals have been detained.

Earlier, it was reported that on February 24, 2019, the body of a male was discovered in the first field of Djurjevan village in Kotayk Province, showing gunshot wounds to both sides of the chest and the lower third of the right arm.

As part of the criminal case initiated by the Abovyan investigative department, efforts have led to the identification of the victim, who was registered in the Armavir region and was born in 1990.

The preliminary investigation has clarified several details of the incident. Specifically, information has been obtained that a resident of Vanadzor, born in 1984, and a resident of Ijevan, born in 1989, had reached a preliminary agreement to murder the 28-year-old.

To realize their criminal intent, the two men, aged 29 and 34, undertook preparatory actions for murder during January and February of 2019. They frequently visited the residence of the 28-year-old to assess possible methods for execution of the murder and gather information regarding his whereabouts and vehicle usage.

It was also established that in February 2019, the aforementioned individuals illegally acquired, possessed, and carried a CZ 27 model pistol, which is categorized as a factory-made weapon, and three cartridges of 7.65 mm caliber ammunition. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the crime was not completed, as the 28-year-old was murdered, and the CZ 27 pistol along with the three cartridges were discovered during a search on February 27, 2019, in a house in Gegharest village of Ararat Province.

A new criminal case has been initiated in the Abovyan investigative department under the second part of Article 35-104(7) and Article 235(2) of the Armenian Criminal Code, which has been combined with the case of the murder of the 28-year-old.

Based on the collected evidence, the 34-year-old resident of Vanadzor and the 29-year-old resident of Ijevan have been charged under Article 35-104(7) and Article 235(2) of the Armenian Criminal Code. Their detention has been ordered as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing. Efforts are being made to clarify all circumstances of the incident and to identify the individual who committed the apparent murder.
