Respect Everyone's Dignity: Human Rights Defender on the Maliyan Incident
The Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan has addressed a letter to the Police regarding the incident that occurred at 18 Amiryan Street, aimed at examining the actions taken and to be taken.
Recognizing the existence of a criminal case, it is necessary for all circumstances surrounding the incident to be subjected to thorough investigation.
Considering the incident and the concerning developments related to human rights before and after it, the Human Rights Defender notes:
- The Human Rights Defender considers any expression of violence unacceptable, as well as any public remarks that undermine an individual's dignity.
- Everyone's rights and freedoms must be respected; the physical integrity of individuals should be protected unconditionally by the state. This is guaranteed by our country's Constitution and international obligations.
- The right to physical integrity can only be restricted by law and for the purposes envisaged by the Constitution.
- Every person's dignity must be treated with respect; it is inviolable and serves as the indispensable foundation of each of our rights and freedoms. This is how solidarity is formed in society, ensuring a climate of mutual respect.
- Incidents like this should be followed by a swift response from the competent state authorities to ensure the unreserved operation of the rule of law.
The Human Rights Defender will remain committed to a complete, objective, and comprehensive investigation of the case within his jurisdiction.
