I Propose to Form a Parliamentary Group to Travel to Syria: Arman Babajanyan
Arman Babajanyan, a member of the National Assembly from the 'Bright Armenia' faction, wrote on his Facebook page:
“I propose to form a parliamentary group to travel to Syria. Since February 8, the Armenian humanitarian mission has been operating in the Syrian Arab Republic. The decision to send a mission to Syria has received conflicting evaluations, including a range of different assessments from various sectors of foreign policy.
Amid the whirlwind of those evaluations, statements, and opinions, the security issues of the real representatives of the mission—comprising 83 members—were pushed to the background. At the same time, we also have security concerns of the Armenian community in Syria, which existed both before the mission was sent and as of today. Due to these issues, I, as a member of the 'Bright Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, propose to form a parliamentary group consisting of members of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and Defense and Security to travel to Syria, meet with our mission members, and familiarize ourselves with their issues on the ground. I will also address my proposal to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the relevant committees through the required procedures.”
