Armenia's Public Debt Rises: 'Zhoghovurd'
The newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reports that the public debt of Armenia has increased in the first month of this year. According to the newspaper, the debt has grown by 28.1 percent. As of December 31, the public debt was $6 billion 922.9 million, while by January 31, it had reached $6 billion 951 million. A significant portion of this debt consists of the government debt, totaling $6 billion 400 million, of which $4 billion 996.1 million is external debt.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government usually implements a policy aimed at reducing public debt. During his tenure, the government has avoided taking new loans, instead directing resources towards settling old debts. However, Pashinyan has not been able to entirely avoid borrowing; rather, fewer loan resources have been attracted. Considering the enormous debt burden left by Serzh Sargsyan's administration, one can speculate about the difficulties expected in this regard.
