VIDEO: Numerous Dead Fish Found in Artsvanik Reservoir

The Armenian Environmental Front is warning that the issue raised months ago regarding the presence of dead fish in the river near the Artsvanik reservoir still remains unresolved.

According to the Facebook page of the AEW, videos and photos taken a few months ago were published on the social media platform by one of the local residents.

The post included the following text:

“Dear environmentalists, I draw your and everyone's attention to the photos and videos of the Achajan River in the Kapan community... this disgraceful sight is the consequence of wastewater being dumped into the Achajan River from the Kajaran combine’s wastewater pipeline, destroying not only the fish but also making life unbearable for us, the local residents... besides the unbearable smell, we are deprived of irrigation water, and living in the Achajan community has become meaningless...
P.S. The wastewater mainly flows into the river at night, and since my house is located 50 meters from the river, we can't even sleep due to the unbearable smell...”

The AEW will draw the attention of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia, the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, and the Armenian government.

“These issues have been raised numerous times by environmentalists, ecologists, and local residents, but the wheels of progress are still stuck. The extractive industries remain above the law, and unfortunately, the head of the only state institution that could hold them accountable, Arthur Grigoryan, has been dismissed from his position,” the AEW's statement reads.
