What Has Pashinyan Forbidden the Police? Two Boundaries That Law Enforcement Cannot Cross

Political changes in Armenia have had a shocking impact on the police system, and in the new context of a new Armenia, the role, functions, and codes of conduct for the police must be clarified. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during an extended session of the Republican Police College.

“I would like to emphasize two boundaries: the Police of the Republic of Armenia cannot be a body that uses brute force against its own citizens, on the other hand, the police cannot observe like a spectator while situations arise where citizens' rights are being restricted.

There are no clear formulations here, but as a result of public discussions, we must reach a situation where the police act as a clear guarantor of law and order, without any element of political bias. It is very important to create certain guarantees for the stability of the law enforcement system,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
